Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Laura. I’m addicted to coffee, I love to travel, I miss sleeping, and my 2-year-old daughter is the best thing I’ve ever done. I also have a serious problem: I get way too geeked out when it comes to helping others brand themselves as a product. It’s true. I can’t get enough of digging into human psychology and joining that with traditional branding methods. Yet, this niche focus was not always my intended path.
When I first left Sony Music Entertainment after a decade and opened my consultancy, I fully expected to create major label-quality marketing strategies for independent artists. However, that plan derailed when I realized these independent artists didn’t need marketing advice; they needed branding. They had jumped over step one and were ready to push their product into the marketplace. Eeeek!
“I don’t need branding. I know who I am.”
This common myth is problematic because even if an influencer knows who they are, they may not know how to marry that with a viable product. They may not know how to communicate who they are as a brand. They may not know what they want to say for the next twenty years or how to say it differently than the competition. An influencer may know who they are and still need branding all the same.
How important is it for an influencer to have a brand?
You can have the best marketing strategy from the best marketing agency in the world, and without a solid brand, the campaign will fail. Imagine a house built on an unsteady foundation. It would only take a small gust of wind to knock everything down. And every career faces a lot more than a peaceful summer rain.
So, this is where my mission comes in.
I believe I have been put on this earth to help influencers of all kinds learn how to construct that solid foundation so the business they build will be standing strong years from now. I enjoy getting the opportunity to inform and empower entrepreneurs who will one day be household names or those already in the stratosphere. I love to transform people into brands.
