What is positive psychology? It sounds like a whole lot of pie-in-the-sky gibberish, but it's not!
Traditional psychology concentrates on diagnosing and treating dysfunctions and disorders. Positive psychology, on the other hand, is the scientific study of how brains operate at optimum levels. These researchers study outliers and what makes them unique and successful. They study grit, and purpose, and overall well-being.
I like to say, and I may have heard this from somewhere, that overall well-being is not the absence of disorder. You can be perfectly healthy and not operating at your best. So, how do my clients stop being average and raise above the competition? How do they become world-known influencers?
Enter Shawn Achor, positive psychology researcher from Harvard with one of the most successful TEDTalks of all time. I share this clip with my students on the first day of class each semester because Achor presents a quantifiable way for influencers to rise above average. And, if anyone is going to succeed as a public figure, you have to be above average.
It's 13 minutes long, but it is fast and funny, so even short attention spans, like my own, will enjoy the information. At the end, ask yourself which main points are most valuable to your business? I share a few of my favorites in my upcoming book. Any guesses which ones? Comment below!
